As an artist, Amy Hagemeier has exhibited in the US and
Mexico. Her
illustrations have been published in LA
Record, and
a comic she co-created with Michael Aushenker was published in LA
X Press.
In 2010 Amy co-founded Vox Urbana, a Tucson-based cumbia band, and performed with
them for two years.
As an activist, Amy was a board member of Border Action Network, an immigrant rights groups in Tucson, and co-organized a
bi-national youth conference in Nogales, Sonora. In 2002 the University of Arizona awarded her an Undergraduate Research Grant for her work about
the US/Mexico border.
Lately she
has used her creativity to help grassroots organizations by donating
paintings for auctions, playing benefit concerts, and collaborating
with other activists and artists on various art installations. Most
recently she face painted at the Zócalo
in Mexico City to support the popular student movement Yo Soy 132.
Amy
